Have you finished your studies? Do you need a career break? Are you retired? Do you want to help make a difference?

Whatever qualification you have – there is something you can do. There is a great variety of areas of interest: there is the cluster care centre for children who can’t live with their families, or have none. Here help is needed in the daily care for 54 children, aged between 1 year and 20 years.
The older children go to government schools, and need help with their homework in the afternoons. Some volunteers work in a small clinic at the centre. There are also working opportunities in the outreach program. Always needed is a hand in administration, and in the office to keep computers going and emails answered. Last but not least, there is a need for someone who is willing to be involved in maintenance and driving vehicles.
Everyone is welcome to apply
The volunteer program is open to anyone who is 25 years old and over. You cannot choose in which area you would like to work. You will be placed in the area that needs a volunteer unless you have specific qualifications such as a nursing diploma or teaching degree etc. Accommodation is adequate but very basic.
Period of stay
When working with the children is concerned, we prefer long-term volunteers. Generally we require applicants to stay for at least 6 months; a year or even longer. Exceptions to this rule are considered, but you might be asked to pay for your accommodation and board.
Life at GGA
As a long term volunteer, you can enjoy free very basic accommodation in communal living areas. Accommodation is on site and is free... Volunteers must cook and provide for their own meals. You need to provide for your own provisions. Approx 300 rand (25 pounds) (30 euros) week.
Working hours
The hours are approximately 8 hours a day, which also includes working every second weekend. If you are weekend on duty, there is transport to the local supermarket to buy supplies for the following weekend / week. On the weekend off, there is transport to one of the big Malls, or you may simply hire a car and enjoy Africa’s Backpackers to learn more about people and country. A weekend is the perfect chance to experience the coast, the magestic Drakensberg Mountains, Lesotho, the Imfolozi/Hluhluwe Safari Game Parks, Swaziland or Mozambique.
Cultural Concerns
Potential volunteers must adhere to a set of guidelines and standards of dress code and behavior. This is in accordance with the culture of the African people groups they will be interacting with. As an example, no short shorts or revealing clothing.
